And so there was silence.....silence because we were in glacier-territory. I can tell you, I am small, but I felt pretty damn small in glacier territory.....Silence because what we have seen took time to sink in, I could not find the words to desribe it....still can´t. Silence also because we were on the move again.....slowely towards the end of the world......
But first let me tell you that from Bariloche (where I celebrated my birthday) we took a plane to El Calafate, our plane had an 8 hour delay. I felt a bit like being on Toronto airport, I once spent 11 hours waiting on my plane back home. Felt like I was born on the airport and had not done anything else but being on the airport for 29 years or so haha. I knew every shop inside and out. But anyway the plane finally arrived from Buenos Aires (it was delayed because of the weather and the radar failed) so we could take off. The plane looked and felt somewhat like a cargoplane.....it was small and cold and noisy and looked and sounded like its flying miles had expired. It all went well and we arrived at El Calafate late in the evening. The taxidriver was very kind and drove us to a number of hostels till we found the cheapest we could find. However it was already closed for the off-season. The owner was a friend and he called her. She immediately rusher herself to the hostel, opened up especially for us and brought her entire family. Which was very nice, El Calafate is very touristic. It is the main entry point to Parque National Los Glaciares. And that, is sooooooooooooo beautiful. Amazing, fantastic and then some! The pictures are from glaciers and lakes in the Parque Nacional Los Glaciares. The Perito Moreno glacier for example measures km long, 5 km wide and 60 m high. It´s constantly advancing - up to 2 m a day - while constantly calving icebergs from its face. We even hiked on the glacier! This was absolutely fantastic! At the end, they surprised us with a glass of whiskey, on the glacier: it couldn´t get any better! A picture of us on the glacier can be seen on Miriam´s blog (visited by the link on my blog) All pictures of ourselves are made with Miriam´s camera so therefore you have hardly seen any pictures of me and us on my blog. Hopefully you will enjoy these pictures of the glaciers. Hopefully they will tell a little bit of what I have seen....
